A typical week of our summer program starts with a safety lecture and learning to cast outside the District 14 Police Station in Brighton.
Attendees then travel to the day’s fishing location in The Fishing Academy 15 Passenger Van.
Monday we head to the Middlesex School in Concord to catch largemouth bass, sunfish, crappie, pickerel and catfish before ending the day at Celebrity Ice Cream in Watertown.
Tuesday we head to North Attleboro and take an educational tour at the Federal Fish Hatchery, learning how trout and salmon are raised and eventually stocked in local waters. We then fish for these same trout at the pond across from the hatchery and there is an opportunity to bring some home for dinner. We also end the day at Bass Pro Shops in Foxboro Ma. before heading back for the day. All of these trips have five to six Fishing Academy staffers.
On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday its all saltwater fishing with Wednesday and Friday fishing for flounder, bluefish, seabass and striped bass in Boston Harbor aboard charter boats led by experienced captains, all registered and fully insured.
On Thursday we go to Falmouth and have a late day, leaving Brighton at 10:30am, fishing on The Patriot for Seabass, Fluke, small sharks and Scup. We pickup pizza to go on the way back to the Police Station for a 7:00pm return. Attendee’s wear lifejackets and have additional safety precautions.
Our afterschool trips are usually arranged by local schools in either the spring or fall and run from four to six weeks, up to twice a week. We also do a school project week program with Fenway High School using some of the same locations and the students have to do a report on what they have learned, while sharing their experiences.
Our Veterans trips are in both fresh and saltwater, with the Saltwater trips being the most popular. Veterans get to relax and unwind, telling stories of shared experiences in the military. Some of the Veterans are disabled or suffer PTSD and this offers them the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful surrounding, while bringing home Striped Bass for dinner.
